Belgrade: wars and saints

The most interesting part of visiting Serbia was finding signs like these.

In another spot, some of the only visible signs of the 1999 NATO bombing. (For anyone interested in the history of the Balkans, I highly recommend reading up on it. Fascinating stuff.)






(On a personal note, this is the intersection where those Serbian strangers lent me a cell phone.)

Belgrade's biggest church, St. Sava. Actually this is the biggest Eastern Orthodox church in the world.




Like the Sagrada Familia, this church will hopefully be finished sometime this century. Unlike the Spanish one, the building of this church suffers from a lack of funds, due to a severely depressed economy recovering from  a very recent war.


Slobodan and Marianna, fantastic tour guides. Even if they couldn't remember where they parked the car!
