Buskers in Barcelona

One of my favourite things about Barcelona was the live music everywhere! There were saxophone players serenading the people at outdoor restaurants on the boulevard; musicians playing interesting instruments in the park;

(this is called a "hang")

duos;

groups on the metro; and the best: this ensemble under a palm tree near the beach!

I did, of course, spend some time at the beach.

What was surprising there (besides the number of topless women - I'd forgotten to expect that!) was all the salespeople. Every two minutes we were offered cold drinks or Chinese massage or samosas (right, samosas). Deanna, my new friend from the hostel, commented on what a rough life it must be for someone to hawk things on a hot beach all day long for a living.

There were bikinis everywhere. Not just on the beach but on the menus at cafes.

For some reason a bikini is what they call a grilled ham and cheese sandwich in Spain!
